MathType 4.0 for Windows is now also Available in French, German and Japanese

Long Beach, CA, - February 18, 2000 - Design Science, Inc. today announced the release of French, German and Japanese language versions of MathType 4 for Windows, the professional version of the Equation Editor included in Microsoft Office. MathType is the leading software for creating mathematical notation in word processing documents, presentations, Web pages, TeX, LaTeX and MathML.

The company released French, German and Japanese versions of MathType and the MathType Web site as part of its worldwide expansion effort. "Although a very high percentage of math and science professors in France, Germany and Japan understand and speak English, we believe native-language versions of MathType are essential for large-scale market penetration among scientists and engineers in industry and grade school teachers throughout Europe", said Paul Topping, Design Science’s president and chief scientist.

There are an estimated 4,000,000 people worldwide, who use the company's Equation Editor in Microsoft Word. "When we licensed Equation Editor to Microsoft we knew at the time we were sacrificing MathType sales in exchange for mind share. As the world became Microsoft Word-centric, technical writers became Equation Editor-centric, creating a new de facto standard for including mathematical notation in technical documents. Now that we have mind share, we are planning to expand globally, creating versions of MathType and the MathType Web site for all languages in which we can identify a market", said Topping.

MathType 4 for Windows can be purchased on the MathType Web site or through software resellers listed on the site: The English version is $129, French and German versions are $199 and the Japanese version is $249. The English, French and German version's academic price is $99, and the upgrade price is $49.95. It runs on Windows 95, 98, 2000 & NT. MathType for Macintosh is also available.
