Major upgrade for developers creating Web sites with dynamic math
Long Beach, CA, - December 3, 2001 - Design Science,
Inc., the developers of MathType and the Equation Editor in Microsoft
Office, announced the release of the WebEQ™ Developers Suite, a toolkit for
building Web pages that include dynamic math. This is the company's first major
upgrade of WebEQ since acquiring the product and its development staff in June
2000. A fully functional, 30-day evaluation is available on the company's Web
site.
Many of the world's leading e-learning companies, content developers and
education portals are using WebEQ components to create Web-based
infrastructure and learning environments that help educators engage
students in math and science on the Web. A few notable companies integrating and
distributing WebEQ include: Blackboard, WebCT, Prometheus, Waterloo Maple,
Question Mark, Brownstone Research Group and many others.
"We've built WebEQ so that it is easy for people with moderate computer
skills to make dynamic math Web pages, but powerful and customizable enough for
first-rate programmers to make virtually any type of math Web site, limited
perhaps only by their imagination.", said Dr. Robert Miner, Director of New
Product Development for Design Science. "We're very happy to offer the best
tools for the job and we are proud to continue our leading role in making Math
on the Web, and MathML in particular, become ubiquitous." said Miner.
WebEQ Developers Suite includes five components: the Editor for authoring
"presentation" and "content" MathML (MathML is a Recommendation of the
World Wide Web Consortium); the Publisher
for processing HTML pages with MathML and WebTeX (WebTeX is an equation markup
language similar to LaTeX); the Input Control which functions as an easy-to-use
graphical equation editor in a Web page; the Equation Server which works behind
the scenes to facilitate batch processing and processing via scripts on a
server; and the Viewer Control that displays MathML in any browser. Extensive
documentation, sample scripts and templates are also included with the suite.
The WebEQ Developers Suite is $495, the academic price is $99 and licenses to
integrate and distribute WebEQ components with products are available.
