MathPlayer Download and Installation

Download the MathPlayer 4 for free!

Design Science MathPlayer™ 4 works with NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA) screen reader to speak and Braille math content in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, Internet Explorer and Firefox. For this to work, you also need to download NVDA.

MathPlayer 4 inserts buttons in Word & PowerPoint on Windows for self-voicing. (This feature requires MathType 6.8 or later.)

MathPlayer continues to support both visual rendering and math speech in Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11 (requires Enterprise Mode in IE11). MathPlayer does not work well in Internet Explorer 10 due to IE 10 bugs or Windows 10 (even in enterprise mode) due to bugs in IE11 on Windows 10.

Note: If you download using Firefox on Windows 8 or later, Windows "Smart Screen" may warn you that the signature of this download is unknown. You can proceed to download it from that point, but to get the Download button, you need to click on "more info".

Installation Instructions

Once the MathPlayer file has completely downloaded to your computer, run MathPlayerSetup.exe file. If your browser offers to "Open this file once downloaded", click Open. Otherwise use Windows Explorer to open the download folder, and then double-click MathPlayerSetup.exe.

If you use assistive technology, make sure you open the MathPlayer Control Panel (see MathPlayer User Manual) and...

1. Choose the type of speech most appropriate for your needs.
2. Either leave the language as "document language" or choose the language in which you wish to hear all of your math. You must have a speech engine capable of speaking in the chosen language.
3. Set the amount of speech you want to hear. If you are an expert, you might prefer a "terse" reading but if you are learning math or don't use it frequently, you might want to choose "full".
4. If you use a refreshable braille display, click on the Braille tab and set the braille code to prefer.

Checking Installation

The MathPlayer Installation Check tests your installation, reports the version currently installed on your computer, and lets you know if you have the most up-to-date version.
