Making MathPlayer Available to Your Readers

If you publish web pages containing MathML, readers using Internet Explorer will need to install MathPlayer on their computers. Obviously, one way to do this is to have them download MathPlayer from our website like you probably did. This page gives some tips on how best to communicate this to your readers using our MathPlayer Logo Program, as well as some alternative distribution options.

MathPlayer Distribution Options

Whenever you publish MathML web pages, you should try to make obtaining MathPlayer as easy as possible for readers who require it. There are several distribution options to choose from:

Adding the "Download MathPlayer" Button to Your Web Content

If you create your own web pages containing MathML equations, you should add our "Download MathPlayer" button to your first or introductory page. This will guide your readers to download the latest version of MathPlayer. To find out how to do this, see the MathPlayer Logo Program section below.

Distribution with Non-commercial, Educational, or Academic Content

We realize that some content will be read on computers without direct access to the Internet or in situations where it is not feasible to require readers to come to the MathPlayer Download Area. For example, a college professor putting classroom materials on a CDROM for distribution to his students might want to include MathPlayer on the CDROM. As long as you don't charge money for your content, we allow you to distribute MathPlayer on a CDROM, DVD-ROM, LAN, or intranet for free, subject to conditions detailed in the MathPlayer Distribution Agreement.

Other Kinds of Distribution

If you are interested in a license to distribute MathPlayer commercially, your application cannot meet the conditions of the MathPlayer Distribution Agreement, or you have questions regarding the licensing and distribution of Design Science products, please complete our licensing form.

MathPlayer Distribution Issues: We Want Your Feedback!

There are a considerable number of questions revolving around how pages containing MathML should be prepared, how MathML rendering software should be obtained and installed, and how software requirements should be presented to the user. We are interested in your feedback on these important issues. Please send your questions and comments to feedback@dessci.com.

MathPlayer Logo Program

If you create your own web pages containing MathML equations, you should add our "Download MathPlayer" button to your gateway page. This will guide your readers to download the latest version of MathPlayer.

In addition, if you want to let your readers know that your pages make use of our wonderful MathPlayer technology, you can add our "Powered by MathPlayer" logo on any pages containing MathML.

Powered by MathPlayer

Obtaining the Logos:

  1. Read the online MathPlayer Logo Agreement, which requires you to provide your email address and to accept the terms of the license.
  2. Once you complete the agreement, you will have access to the download page, where you can download the logos.

Using the "Download MathPlayer" Logo:

Since you will probably have several web pages that contain MathML and, therefore, require MathPlayer, you should have a title page that informs your readers that they'll need to install MathPlayer if they haven't already done so. You may already have a page that can be adapted to this purpose — perhaps a table-of-contents page or a list of lessons. On this page, you should include an explanation of the software requirements for the pages containing mathematics to be viewed with MathPlayer.

We recommend that you include a paragraph on your gateway page (or pages) that says something like the following:

To properly view the mathematics on these pages, you must use Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser, version 6.0 and later, and have Design Science's MathPlayer software installed. To install MathPlayer, click on this link: Download MathPlayer

Here is the HTML code used to include the image and link into your pages:

Using the "Powered by MathPlayer" Logo:

If you want to let your readers know that your pages make use of our wonderful MathPlayer technology, you can add our "Powered by MathPlayer" logo to your pages. Good places for this include navigation bars or at the bottom of each page.
