Accessibility of Math Images

  • Currently Static Bitmaps (GIF, PNG, JPEG, ...)
          quadratic formula
  • Other problems: separate files, alignment (eg, t greater than or equal 0), color
  • Accessibility via ALT tags (not prompted for by most software)
  • ALT tags allow for audio output, but...
    • No navigation of math
    • No braille math output
    • No help for people with vision problems (enlarging, color, contrast)
    • No way to sync speech with display
  • Using alt tags meets legal requirements, but not user needs
