CTL3DV2.DLL Error while Installing MathType 3.5 in Windows
NT
The information in this document applies to:
MathType
3.5x (Win NT 3.x, 4.x) |
Issue
While installing MathType, I receive an error message indicating that the
CTL3DV2.DLL could not be installed. The installation then abruptly ends.
Reason
While we are unsure as to why exactly this error occurs, we have found that
the error message is associated with having multiple copies of the CTL3DV2.dll file on
the computer. Only one copy of this file is needed, and somehow, more than
one interferes with the installation process.
Solution
Find and rename all extraneous copies of the CTL3DV2.dll file.
-
Close all running applications.
-
Open the Windows Explorer (Start|Programs|Windows Explorer)
-
Right mouse click on the drive that contains your Windows NT
directory; this will produce a popup menu.
-
Select Find... from the menu; this will display a dialog in
which you can do a search.
-
In the Filename field, type "ctl3dv2.dll" (without
the quotes).
-
Make sure that the option to "Include subfolders"
is checked.
-
Press Find Now.
Depending on your situation, you may have one or more files with
this file name located on your system. Once the search is complete and is
displaying the list of files that it has located, rename each file (to be on the
safe side). If you have multiple copies of the file, name them
CTL3DV2-1.DLL, CTL3DV2-2.DLL, etc.. Once you have renamed all the matching
files, rerun the MathType installer, which will install and register properly the
CTL3DV2.DLL file into your System32 folder.
