Issue
Many users, after installing MathType 5.x or 6.x, find they receive an error message
in Microsoft Word either "Compile error
in hidden module: AutoExec" when they launch Microsoft Word, or "Compile Error in hidden module: MTLib"
when they try to use commands on the MathType menu in Microsoft Word or the
MathType toolbar/ribbon in Microsoft Word.
Reason
MathType includes an add-in for Microsoft Word which adds the MathType menu
and toolbar/ribbon to Microsoft Word. This add-in contains macros written in Visual
Basic for Applications (VBA), the macro language used by Microsoft Word. The
add-in is placed in Microsoft Word's designated Startup folder. AutoExec is the
macro that Microsoft Word automatically executes when launching. MTLib is a
library of MathType macros used by the toolbar/tab and MathType menu in Microsoft
Word. If there is a problem with your computer's VBA environment, when you
launch Microsoft Word, you may receive error messages.
Solution
To correct this problem, you need to make sure that Microsoft Office
components upon which the MathType Commands for Word rely are functioning
correctly. You should follow the instructions that we provide for
resolving issues using the MathType Commands for Microsoft
Word.
