MathType installer won't open on Macintosh OS X Mountain Lion
The information in this document applies to:
- MathType 6.7d and earlier (Macintosh)
|
- Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion)
|
Issue:
When attempting to install MathType on Mountain Lion, an alert dialog opens
saying '"MathType 6.7d Installer.mpkg" can't be opened because it is from an
unidentified developer"

Reason:
With Macintosh OS X 10.8 a new security measure was introduced called
Gatekeeper, designed to provide greater control as to what can or cannot be
installed onto your Macintosh. Depending on how this is set, it may stop the
MathType installer from running.
Solution:
You should download and install MathType
6.7e. Alternatively you can run the installation without changing any security settings as
follows:
- After expanding the .dmg file, CTRL+Click (Or right-click)
the MathType 6.7d Installer.mpkg to expose the contextual menu
and click 'Open.'

- This will produce a new dialog asking you to confirm your
intention of opening the installer

- Click Open.
- Once this last confirmation is done, the MathType installer will run. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation. If the problem persists, contact Design Science Technical Support at
