MathType 3.0 (Win) |
Microsoft Word 95 (Win) |
MathType 3.0 (3.0 through 3.0e) is generally compatible with
Word 95 except:
- Some mathematical symbol elements may display as letters.
- Double-clicking on MathType equations may run Equation Editor.
- The command menu items for doing such things as equation numbering and
equation updating will not work under Word 7; most often producing a
"Word cannot load the specified dll" error.
- "MathType Equation" may not appear as an item in the listing of
objects when you select Object from Word's Insert menu.
These problems have been fixed in the latest version of MathType. We highly
recommend you upgrade your copy of MathType.
Postscript versions of Fences
Owners of Postscript printers may note that brackets, parentheses, and
radicals may not display properly but will print correctly. This is caused by a
difference in how Windows 95 deals with Postscript fonts. This is corrected with
the new Postscript version of the Fences font in MathType 3.1.
Word 95 and Microsoft Equation 2.1
Word 95 comes with version 2.1 of Microsoft Equation, a new release
of the junior version of MathType that Design Science licenses to Microsoft.
Unfortunately, if you installed Microsoft Equation 2.1 with Word 95, it will set up
Microsoft Equation 2.1 to be the default editor of your new equations and existing
MathType equations.
MathType’s Commands for Word
If you had an earlier version Word previously with the MathType macros
installed, your installation of Word 95 will automatically inherit the macros
from the earlier version of Word. You will still get the "Word cannot load
the specified dll" error if you attempt to run these macros in Word 95.
The Word commands for MathType that we provide with MathType 3.0d and higher
(WW2MACRO.DOC and/or WW6MACRO.DOC)
will not install properly in Word 95. This is due to changes made in the WordBasic macro language. We have
included a Word 95 macro file (WW7MACRO.DOC)
with MathType 3.1.
OLE Registration
Due to the changes made in Windows 95), versions of
MathType prior to 3.1 may not register properly with the Object Linking and
Embedding (OLE) database causing
MathType not to appear in the listing of objects when you select Object from the
Insert menu of Word.
